Internship
Description

UNEP-WCMC is looking for a highly motivated intern with an interest in research to join our Climate Change and Biodiversity programme.

The UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) works with scientists and policy makers worldwide to place biodiversity at the heart of environment and development decision-making to enable enlightened choices for people and the planet.

Ecosystem restoration is undertaken for a multitude of purposes: for biodiversity conservation, as a nature-based solution to climate change mitigation or adaptation needs, or to restore other ecosystem services.  This is a practical, 12 week internship that will contribute to identifying how biodiversity-focused landscape scale restoration under the Endangered Landscapes Programme can also contribute to climate change mitigation. Working with UNEP-WCMC staff, the intern will help to trial existing tools for assessment of carbon impacts of land management options, in the special context of European landscape restoration projects. This will involve working in collaboration with the RSPB on an enabling project under the Cambridge Conservation Initiative’s Endangered Landscapes Programme.  It forms part of the Centre’s wider work in the run up to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, starting in 2021.
