Cameroon is one of the most biodiverse countries in Africa, with tropical forests, tropical wooded savannah, semi-arid, montane, freshwater and marine and coastal ecosystems. It is also one of the four countries that received support under the first phase of BES-Net to carry out its national ecosystem assessment, with political support from the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development and technical backstopping support from UNEP-WCMC. The process has been guided closely by the National Platform for Science-Policy Interface on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.

  • Cameroon has validated and launched its national ecosystem assessment report and summary for policymakers in 2022.
  • The country has received support from BES-Net to contribute to national efforts addressing land degradation, building on the latest knowledge and evidence.
  • Cameroon is receiving the BES Solution Fund to implement some of the recommendations from the ecosystem assessment.
