The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is a global intergovernmental treaty aiming at the coordinated and concerted conservation and management of migratory species and the ecosystems on which they depend. The Convention Secretariat is administered by UNEP. The post is located in the Abu Dhabi duty station.

CMS Office – Abu Dhabi, a regional office of the Convention, coordinates the CMS Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Conservation and Management of Birds of Prey and their Habitats throughout their Range (Raptors MOU). The Programme Management Officer heads the Raptors MOU Coordinating Unit. The work of the Coordinating Unit has six core areas: (1) MOU process; (2) Technical Advisory Group support; (3) National and regional strategies; (4) Vultures Multi-species Action Plan; (5) Saker Falcon Global Action Plan; and (6) Cross-cutting areas (Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade; Poisoning; and Electrocution). The Programme Management Officer will supervise an Associate Programme Management Officer who not only supports the work of the Raptors MOU, but also supports CMS Office – Abu Dhabi working collaboratively with the Dugong MOU Programme Management Officer, as well as the Executive Coordinator who heads the Office.
