Sustainable Use and Conservation of Biodiversity
The sixth session of the IPBES Plenary (IPBES-6) decided to initiate the Thematic Assessment of 1) Invasive Alien Species and Their Control and 2) Sustainable Use of Wild Species in 2018 and 2019 respectively for consideration by the Plenary at IPBES-10.
The Thematic Assessment of Invasive Alien Species and Their Control is to assess the threat that invasive alien species pose to biodiversity, ecosystem services and livelihoods and the global status and trends in impacts of invasive alien species by region and sub-region.
The Thematic Assessment of the Sustainable Use of Wild Species is to address the ecological, economic, social and cultural importance, conservation status, drivers of change, of mainly harvested and traded biodiversity-related products and wild species. It will also assess the potential of the sustainable use of biodiversity for the enhancement of livelihoods of indigenous peoples and local communities, including the role of traditional governance and institutions
