ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING
As the only specialized organization with the mandate to support educational policy, planning and management, the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) plays a unique role within the United Nations system. IIEP was established in 1963 as an integral part of UNESCO. It supports ministries of education around the world and other key actors to plan and manage education systems through its programmes of training, technical assistance, policy research and knowledge sharing. IIEP also includes the IIEP Pole de Dakar and Buenos Aires Offices.

OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
This position is located in the Information Services Unit of the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) in Paris and reports to the Information Services Team Leader. Under the supervision of the Team leader and in close collaboration with other team members, the incumbent is in charge of reviewing, revising and editing IIEP documents, such as manuscripts, concept notes, web news, institutional documents, etc. The incumbent supports in particular IIEP move towards e-publications, including through the provision of advise and assistance in this regard to IIEP staff. Because of the public nature IIEP content, the incumbent must demonstrate very good editorial skills and sound judgement in order to maintain IIEP’s excellent reputation. The incumbent will have the following duties and responsibilities:

1. E-publications
In close coordination with and with the support of the Information Services Team Leader, the incumbent initiates and contributes to IIEP’s transition towards e-publications. The incumbent liaises on a regular basis with UNESCO headquarters and all those concerned The incumbent advises and assists IIEP staff with all electronic publishing related issues.
 
2. Editing and manuscripts preparation
Reviews, revises and/or edits IIEP manuscripts and other documents, liaising with contributing authors (internal and external) as needed, and notably to ensure that mansucripts submitted for publication are complete.
Prepares manuscripts for copy-editing and works with authors to resolve copy-editing queries. The incumbent prepares manuscripts for layout, subsequently inserting proof corrections (using Adobe InDesign). The incumbent assists in verifying corrections to proofs at progressive publication stages.
Drafts short texts (e.g. notes, blurbs) as needed and keeps track of expected and delivered manuscripts.

3. External providers
Liaises with external service providers (copy-editors, proofreaders, etc.) throughout the publication process and assures timely delivery of results. The incumbent contributes to identifying new external service providers on a regular basis and to assessing the quality of their work, with a view to feed IIEP roster.

4. Rights and licensing
Assists in managing rights, licensing and co-publishing agreements, in close coordination with UNESCO headquarters. The incumbent acts in particular as IIEP focal point for all Open Access related issues.

5. Dissemination
Contributes to ensuring the visibility of IIEP publications by writing notes and promotional material for IIEP’s newsletter, website, and other communication materials. In close coordination with the Associate Communication Officer and the Associate Web Officer, the incumbent ensures all flagship publications come with a targeted communication plan to ensure visibility towards IIEP key audiences, thus contributing to the sharing and dissemination of IIEP knowledge and resources.
Contributes as needed to IIEP public communication activities (including the organization and promotion of IIEP events), and to global advocacy campaigns.
