The External Affairs Policy Associate plays a key role in the California program to affect public policy to further The Nature Conservancy’s mission.  S/he serves as a fiscal and policy analyst in key conservation, climate, and environmental policy areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The External Affairs Policy Associate provides research and policy analysis in support of The Nature Conservancy’s policy priorities and tracks policies and decisions that directly affect conservation goals. S/he builds and facilitates internal networks, coordinating meetings, agendas, and presentations. S/he provides services that assist in influencing the outcome of policy at state and local levels. S/he provides public policy and funding research to the organization. S/he and coordinates strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, and industry to advance the organization’s conservation agenda.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Works within scope of California program’s strategic policy goals.
  • Provides research and policy analysis in support of legislative, administrative and/or policy priorities.
  • Provides research and analysis of public funding, including state budget, bonds, fees, and taxes.
  • May provide assistance with preparation of program materials including presentations, memos, spreadsheets, and other communications.
  • Influences the outcome of policy initiatives at state and local levels.
  • Develops strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, and/or industry.
  • Work independently, working with supervisor as needed.
