Description

The Project Associate – Biodiversity Finance will support the production of the Biodiversity Expenditure Review, the Financial Needs Assessment and the development of the Biodiversity Finance Plan. The role also contributes to the overall implementation of the GEF8 Umbrella programme at the national level, under the supervision of the Environment Policy Specialist and in coordination with national stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Support effective project planning and implementation

    • Compile and summarize information for project work plans, budgets and implementation arrangements.

    • Support project implementation aligned with work plans, ensure quality delivery, compliance with policies, and gender mainstreaming.

    • Provide administrative and logistical support including event organization, procurement, recruitment and contracting.

  2. Support partnerships and resource mobilization

    • Maintain cooperation with stakeholders, update partner databases and support communications.

    • Ensure regular engagement and integration of stakeholder feedback.

    • Promote visibility of project activities and explore funding opportunities.

  3. Support monitoring, evaluation and reporting

    • Contribute to project monitoring, data collection and evaluation aligned with M&E framework.

    • Assist in identifying implementation gaps and risk mitigation.

    • Organize field visits, missions and other events.

  4. Monitor identified and emerging risks

    • Track expenditures, budgets, recommend corrective actions and prepare finance-related correspondence.

    • Consolidate and prepare project reports in line with donor requirements.

  5. Support knowledge building and capacity development

    • Disseminate data and lessons learned nationally and regionally.

    • Contribute to knowledge networks and compile project outputs for wide distribution.

Job Requirements

Minimum education requirements

  • Secondary education is required, OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Public Administration, Economics, Business Administration, Management, or related field is preferred.

Minimum years of relevant work experience

  • 7 years (with secondary education) or 4 years (with bachelor’s degree) in Finance, Economics, Administration, Management or related field.

Required skills

  • Experience working with international and national experts/institutions.

  • Experience in supporting analyses and drafting reports on policies and public finance.

  • Ability to prepare reports, publications and presentations.

  • Proficiency in MS Office.

Desired skills

  • Experience in project management, financial reporting and communication.

  • Background in environmental, biodiversity, climate or public finance topics.

  • Familiarity with Suriname’s governmental systems.

  • Responsiveness to feedback and client-focused results.

Languages

  • Fluency in Dutch and English required.
