Council is currently developing a Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and is holding two community workshops (online Nov 3, in person Nov 4) aimed at gathering a diverse range of people from the community with knowledge of biodiversity to share their opinions, feedback and input in order to help shape and inform the Strategy.
The workshops will be facilitated by behaviour change expert Les Robinson from ‘Enabling Change. Les is one of Australia’s most engaging and thoughtful strategic facilitators and trainers with over 20 years experience focusing on change, innovation and engagement, principally in the public sector.
The Biodiversity Conservation Strategy is Council’s 10-year plan to strengthen our response to biodiversity decline and boost our efforts to protect and restore biodiversity. It will provide the overall strategic direction for biodiversity conservation in the Blue Mountains LGA for the next 10 years, setting out a clear vision and objectives to guide our decisions, priorities, and resourcing to manage pest animals, weeds, habitat restoration, and threatened species recovery.
The success of this strategy will rely heavily on meaningful collaboration between Council, residents, community, industry, local and regional organisations, relevant experts and especially the Traditional Custodians.
This long-term strategy aims to answer key questions such as: where we are now in 2024, where do we want to be in 2033, and how do we get there?
While the strategy will build on a strong foundation and history of success it also represents a step change in the way we manage biodiversity conservation as a community.
