The African Bird Club is now accepting applications for its grant program, dedicated to supporting bird conservation projects and scientific expeditions across the African continent. These awards aim to provide vital funding for local initiatives that protect Africa’s unique avifauna and their habitats.
Support is available for projects that: Focus on the conservation of birds and their habitats in Africa. Conduct surveys or research to improve knowledge of African birds. Implement education or community-based programs related to bird conservation. Support expeditions that collect important data on little-known species or regions.
Award details
- Conservation Awards: Typically up to £3,000 for local conservation projects.
- Expedition Awards: Typically up to £5,000 for larger-scale survey and research expeditions.
- Deadline: 30 June, 2026 (Applications are reviewed three times a year: this is the next major closing date).
- Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit full proposals.
Requirements
- Open to individuals and local conservation groups (priority is given to African residents).
- Projects must be located within Africa or its associated islands.
- Applications must demonstrate clear conservation benefits or scientific value.
- Submissions must be made via the official ABC application forms.
Not eligible: General academic tuition fees, salaries for permanent staff, or projects located outside of the African region. Requests for retrospective funding (projects already completed) will not be considered.
