Working closely with the Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) Specialist and the head of the Nature4Climate (N4C) Coalition, the N4C Communications Manager develops, manages, and implements communication strategies for the NCS Action Mapper and the N4C initiative. The Communications Manager will be responsible for the NCS science communications workstream, generating content and outreach strategies, bridging the gap between the emerging NCS science and implementation through original and curated communications. The Communications Manager understands the climate and nature nexus and the related science, and has experience working with scientists, policymakers, c-level executives, on integrated campaigns, brings excellent writing skills, and is an organized, high-energy, creative storyteller who is well-versed in social/digital media. This position will be based in the UK.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The NCS Action Mapper is an interactive tool that brings together all relevant science, data and knowledge in a unique and useful way to help practitioners and policymakers make better, more informed and efficient decisions on the deployment of NCS at a national, regional and local level for every country on earth. The Communications Manager will be an experienced strategic communications professional, who will work towards meeting strategic priorities by developing and coordinating communications plans and materials and managing projects for the NCS Action Mapper and N4C. They will serve as the lead for the NCS science workstream communications, translating the science and data for key target audiences, and integrating this work into the NCS Action Mapper and the N4C platform. They will also serve as the lead communications liaison with internal (TNC) and external (N4C coalition) partners – as well as other strategic partners for the N4C coalition – in order to advance specified outcomes. They will also lead the science communications workgroup for the N4C platform. They will lead and implement the following communications activities: earned media, digital platforms and social media, event-led campaigning and presentations, and unbranded communications co-ordination. They will establish project goals and success factors, develop project plans, budgets and schedules with input and buy-in from key stakeholders and team members, and will lead the project teams to successfully achieve those goals in the most impactful and cost-effective manner possible. In doing so they ensure coordination between multiple stakeholders, including TNC departments, N4C partners, donors and third-party suppliers such as creative agencies. They need excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and would benefit from external communications contacts on a global level within the nature and climate communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Development and execution of N4C communication activities under the Bezos Earth Fund grant, particularly relating to natural climate solutions science.
- Project manage and deliver the supporting communications for the delivery of the NBS in NDCs tracker.
- Development and execution of communication and advocacy plans to engage a broad range of stakeholders.
- Development and execution of event-led communications campaigns.
- Collaboration with internal and external partners to ensure alignment across many different organizations and communications workstreams.
- Writes and produces a variety of content, including social media, blogs, talking points, case studies, presentations.
