Description

Oceanus Conservation is hiring a Community Officer to support the second-year implementation phase of the Mangrove-based Initiatives for Thriving Habitats and Inclusive Communities (MITHI) Project. The role focuses on grassroots coordination with communities, People’s Organizations (POs), and local government units (LGUs) to implement mangrove rehabilitation, community monitoring and nature-based livelihoods.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with communities and POs to meet the Year 2 planting target of 7,500 mangrove saplings.

  • Support planning and implementation of site preparation, planting and community-based monitoring activities.

  • Assist with field logistics including venue arrangements, transportation, meals, accommodations and materials.

  • Collaborate with community groups to develop potential value-added livelihood products.

  • Support financial and governance training for People’s Organizations.

  • Draft basic correspondence and meeting requests for LGU coordination.

  • Conduct monthly field visits and submit regular progress updates to the Project Manager.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Environmental Science, Social Sciences or a related field.

  • At least 3 years of experience in community-based projects, preferably related to coastal or environmental work.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills.

  • Comfortable working in remote and field-based conditions.

  • Basic reporting and documentation skills using tools such as Google Workspace.

  • Familiarity with LGU and PO engagement is an advantage.

  • Fluency in Ilocano preferred.

Work Setup and Benefits

  • Reports to the Project Manager, with required activity reports and team meeting attendance.
