The Coral Restoration Fellow will participate in and support day-to-day operations of the land-based and field-based coral nurseries, as well as perform data collection and analysis for testing asexual propagation (microfragmentation) approaches for multiple species and genotypes. The Fellow will participate in learning exchanges with the University of the Virgin Islands and support engagement and training of the volunteer group, Coral Patrol.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Collects and analyzes data for microfragmentation approaches experiment.
- Assists with general cleaning and maintenance of land-based nursery facility.
- Performs field work on SCUBA or snorkel as a part of the TNC dive team including coral restoration work and reef monitoring.
- Participates in engagement efforts with Coral Patrol volunteer group.
- May lead or monitor work groups consisting of staff, interns or volunteers.
- Works under close or infrequent supervision.
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations for long periods of time in isolated settings, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
- Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.
