Description
The Federal Grants Manager is responsible for the execution of a federal grants program to support the Trust for Public Land’s (TPL’s) Federal Affairs team and state and area offices, with a specific focus on project support for our Parks, Schoolyards, and Trails initiatives This includes: researching public grant programs with an emphasis on National Park Service, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Transportation, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and other related federal agencies; disseminating information and providing grant guidance and support to staff, community partners, and/or agencies; assessing TPL projects for program eligibility and potential; managing the preparation, drafting, and submission of TPL project grant proposals; and assisting in post-award coordination.
 
This position works closely with Federal Affairs staff and field staff in relevant state and field offices.

 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess TPL’s public grant financing needs, identify project eligibility, assess potential for federal funding programs, and help secure grant funding.
  • Coordinate with state/field, finance, legal, and other programs and staff as needed on preparation of grant applications for federal public agency funding, including researching, writing project descriptions, editing text prepared by project staff and partners, coordinating the design of proposals and finalizing application packages with project administrative staff.
  • Monitor grant proposals following submission to funding agencies; gather and provide additional information as needed, and work with TPL’s legal department, Finance team, applicants, and funding agencies to accept and manage awards.
  • Work with Federal Affairs staff to develop and maintain close relationships with program officers, contract offices, or grant administrators at funding agencies.  
  • Work with Federal Affairs staff to inform public agencies regarding grant programs and guidelines.
  • Maintain up-to-date database of grant information, including a calendar of grant deadlines, summary of grant program requirements, and research aids.
  • Research new grant program initiatives.
  • Provide grant information to TPL project and program staff and others as needed.
  • Organize and conduct workshops and training courses.
  • Make presentations at public agencies in support of TPL funding requests.
  • Travel periodically to TPL field offices.
