Responsibilities

● Advanced university degree, in social, economic, political, engineering or environmental sciences, with postgraduate studies in climate change or environmental sciences (master’s or equivalent).

● At least 5 years of practical experience on climate change adaptation, national and subnational policies related to design, monitoring and evaluation. At least 2 years of previous experience working at the national level is required.

● Relevant experience in consulting work. Concrete experience in Chile is an asset. The consultant will need to be based in Chile and able to work closely with the Climate Change Division of the Ministry of Environment, who is the national agency overseeing the coordination the elaboration of new adaptation goals. Additionally, general knowledge about building resilience in the local and national context, contributing to climate change adaptation scenarios, their monitoring and evaluation will be valuable experience for the execution of this project.

● The consultant must possess in-depth knowledge of climate change adaptation and related topics. Additionally, a strong understanding of Chile’s climate change laws and policies is essential. Moreover, understanding of theories, concepts, and approaches relevant to climate change adaptation planning, monitoring and evaluation is necessary. The consultant should demonstrate the ability to interact with public and private sector official, and the capability to identify, analyse, and actively participate in scenario development for testing/piloting proposed systems for monitoring and evaluating adaptation actions. This includes the ability to exercise judgment contextually, plan tasks and courses of action effectively, and manage resulting situations to achieve objectives.

● The consultant is expected to be conscientious and efficient in fulfilling commitments, adhering to deadlines, and delivering results. Analytical capacity and power of synthesis; Report writing and attention to detail; Ability to provide services effectively in complex areas, respecting political, social and environmental sensitivities; working under tight deadlines; Management of MS Office, Internet and electronic communication.

● The consultant will provide on-the-ground support (main person), working closely with and under the guidance of international experts and assist in logistics, literature review, data gathering, stakeholder consultations, stakeholder coordination, report compilation, workshop coordination and delivery.
