Description

The main objective of this assignment is to develop a comprehensive, gender-responsive, and climate-informed training module on ecotourism. The module must promote an integrated understanding of how ecotourism contributes to biodiversity conservation, local economic development, gender equality, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The Consultant under the supervision of the Project Manager will develop a module that will include the following:

  1. a)Design the structure and content of the ecotourism module, including learning objectives, key concepts, case studies and exercises. This will also include definition of its specific target audience including minimum qualifications for the target people’s organization/community.
  2. b)Develop content that covers the following thematic areas:
  • Definition, principles and key components of ecotourism
  • Ecotourism planning and management that includes a) cultural heritage mapping, the process of which should be harmonized with the process done by BMB in the ASEAN Heritage Parks; b) community participation; c) sustainability indicators
  • Gender equality and social inclusion in ecotourism (roles of women and indigenous peoples; gender sensitive business development and value chains, strategies for empowering women in ecotourism governance)
  • Ecotourism as a tool for climate change mitigation and adaptation (climate-smart practices such as sustainable transport, energy & waste management, enhancing community resilience and environmental stewardship through tourism)
  1. c)Development of biodiversity-friendly tourism products to include the following sub-topics:
  • criteria for identification of suitable sites for ecotourism development
  • development of tour packages
  • costing
  • tour-guiding script
  • monitoring and evaluation to ensure sustainability
  1. d)Organizational and institutional development including basic bookkeeping
  2. e)Branding guidelines
  3. f)Development of a marketing plan
  4. g)Basics of culinary practices, housekeeping and customer service

The module will contain instructions, exercises, powerpoints and training (pre- and post-test) assessment template/s, as applicable.

  1. h)Modify, revise, and finalize modules
  2. i)Orient National Parks Division and other concerned BMB divisions on the ecotourism module;
  3. j)Submit report/s as may be required by UNDP and BMB
  4. k)Attend relevant project meetings and workshops/exercises.

Qualification

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, Social Sciences or other related fields

Experience

  • At least two years’ experience in social sciences research or community work related to ecotourism
  • Has developed at least 2 training modules related to ecotourism.
