POSITION SUMMARY

CSA has vacancies for 3 Landscape People and Operations Managers who will be responsible for supporting the integration of our Human-Centered Conservation activities (for example Jobs 4 Nature, Green Learning, and Communities and Conservation) implementing and enabling HR, Operations and Corporate Affairs approaches that drive workforce effectiveness and enable a high performing organization along with fit for purpose structures and skill mixes and a continuous learning culture which has inclusivity at its core. The role will support the delivery of a highly impactful and nature-positive human experience for all staff, beneficiaries, and partners of CSA -thereby supporting the sustainable stewardship of key reservoirs of nature across South Africa through human-centered conservation design. This is a part-time, fixed-term position that offers opportunities to work with a committed and innovative team in an exciting and challenging environment.

The Landscape People and Operations Manager manages the human resources and operations processes and related administrative processes and reporting requirements in each of the CSA landscapes. Working closely with the central HR and Operations teams and the landscape management teams, they are accountable for ensuring that CSA HR and Operations processes are implemented in compliance with CSA’s policies and procedures in a way that is relevant to the landscape they are supporting. They are also accountable for giving input to the central HR and Operations team on the design and improvement of processes and procedures, as well as for resolving and/or escalating HR and operations risks, timeously.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Implementation Support

  • Work closely with the landscape teams to pre-empt and design appropriate HR and Operations workplans to support the successful implementation of all projects.

Human Resources

  • Work closely with central HR for guidance on people management issues including performance management, merit review, recruiting, staffing, and compliance with CSA policy and local labor laws. Provide guidance to landscape management, supervisors, and staff on HR issues.
  • Serve as the first point of contact in the landscape on matters relating to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Suooort and advise landscape manaqement in resource planning.
  • Support landscape management and work with central HR to ensure staff are engaged and able to deliver results (this includes identifying, agreeing and implementing training needs).

Payroll

  • Work closely with central HR and payroll to ensure that all hire, payroll and termination data is inputted into systems accurately and on time.
  • Work closely with central HR and payroll to ensure that all hire, payroll and termination documentation storage is maintained.
  • Escalate any risks relating to employee contracts, hire, payroll and terminations, timeously.

Operations

  • Manage standards related to operational management. Ensure operation roles, responsibilities, and workflows are clear and enhance internal client service.
  • Support program and system rollouts.
  • Ensure proper use and application of CSA systems and processes. Liaise with IT to ensure staff are able to access and use CSA’s technology assets.
  • Assist in identifying and addressing issues of high risk.
  • Monitor the Procurement plan implementation.
  • Support the procurement process, ensuring compliance with CSA procedures. Specific focus on people-related procurement i.e., PPE, laptops and phones
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Asset Management

  • Work closely with landscape management and central operations to ensure that the asset register in each landscape is updated and managed:
  • All assets are accurately cataloged.
  • The purchase and sale of assets are handled according to the correct procurement and financial processes.
  • The schedule for maintenance of assets is managed and implemented.

Health and Safety

  • Give input into the development of Health and Safety plans, programmes, processes, and procedures and work with the landscape teams and the central teams to implement and manage Health and Safety plans, programmes, processes, and procedures in the landscape.
  • Work with the landscape teams to ensure compliance with relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • Identify Health and Safety related training needs in the landscape and work with teams in the landscape and the central teams to address these.

Finance

  • Collaborate and integrate with the Finance administration team in the landscape.
  • Support the Finance administration team in the landscape as agreed.

Management

  • This position holds dual reporting lines to the Landscape and to central HR & Ops.
  • This position may require you to manage or coordinate a team of up to 5 members.
  • Supported by the central HR and Operations teams, this role will serve as a subject matter expert on HR (including Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and operations in the landscapes

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position will be based in the CSA landscape offices.
  • Travel into the field and to the central offices of up to 50% may be required.
  • This position follows a hybrid work structure, working some days from the office and some remotely. Guidance will be shared during the interview process.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Finance, Business Administration, HR, or related field.
  • 4-6 years of related work experience in HR, Operations, or Finance with the willingness and ability to learn new processes and areas of administration as required by the landscape, as part of a broader team.
  • Service-orientated, mature, highly motivated, and confident self-starter who has the ability to be proactive, can act independently on own initiative, and has the ability to achieve deliverables through working with dispersed teams for whom they do not have direct line accountability.
  • Detail-orientated, takes pride in the delivery of excellent work, and with the ability to manage processes and teams.
  • Passion for nature conservation and/or rural development is an advantage.
  • Valid code 08 driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote rural areas.

Preferred

  • International nonprofit experience.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills including the ability to effectively convey complex details or technical information.
  • Highly familiar with etiquette, protocol, and employing cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Proven team player.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience at the management level in Operations, HR, or Finance for an international NGO.
  • Passion for nature conservation and/or rural development is an advantage.
