Description

This United Nations Volunteers (UNV) assignment is part of BIOFIN project managed by UNDP. The Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) is a global initiative designed to address the significant challenge of financing biodiversity conservation, now being implemented across more than 130 countries. Launched by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2012, BIOFIN (https://www.biofin.org/ ) provides technical support to countries to develop and implement comprehensive strategies for biodiversity finance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in operations, financial resources management, human resources management, efficient procurement and logistical services
  • Support preparation and update of project work plans, budgets and briefs and other documents as necessary
  • Provide logistical support for Project Board meetings, workshops, and other meetings as tasked by the project
  • Maintain up-to-date files and records of project documentation
  • Support the timely preparation and submission of progress reports, project reviews, financial reports, audit reports, programme evaluations, and any other required project reports
  • Provide support to international consultants in the implementation of assigned tasks for the achievement of project results (communication, contracts, agenda, visas, logistics etc)
  • Assist in procurement processes; assist the project management in preparation of ToRs for consultants and service provider contracts
  • Maintain documents and support audits
  • Support forward-looking information and communication management
  • Ensure the timely and smooth implementation of all project logistics

Job Requirements

Age: 18 – 80

Required experience: 3 years

Nationality: Candidate must be a national, legal resident or hold refugee status in the country of assignment.

Relevant experience: 3 years

Sinhalese, Level: Fluent, Desirable
Tamil, Level: Fluent, Desirable

Required education level:
Bachelor’s degree in Social sciences and computer science.

Skills and experience:

  • Minimum of one year experience as a procurement / finance assistant
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, among others), email, and internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Desirable: valid national driver’s license and proven ability to drive manual gear 4×4 over rough terrain;
    Sound security awareness;
