The Technical Officer will support the work of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture at FAO headquarters, contributing to the implementation of its Multi-Year Programme of Work (MYPOW). The role focuses on providing technical and policy support in the nexus of biodiversity, climate change, and food and agriculture—ensuring coherence with global biodiversity frameworks and the FAO Strategic Framework.
Job Responsibilities

Support the implementation and coordination of the MYPOW and contribute to interdivisional task forces.

Design and implement activities related to climate change, gender mainstreaming, and communication in the context of genetic resources for food and agriculture.

Monitor international policy developments related to biodiversity and analyze their relevance to FAO’s work.

Prepare and organize technical and policy meetings, and develop related documentation.

Produce outreach materials and communication briefs for stakeholders and partners.

Facilitate cooperation with international organizations, UN agencies, MEA secretariats, and other stakeholders.

Support resource mobilization and manage the Commission’s portfolio-related projects.

Perform other related duties as required.
Job Requirements

Education: Advanced university degree in social sciences, science and technology, or a related field.

Experience: At least five years of relevant experience in biodiversity, especially at the intersection of climate change and genetic resources for food and agriculture.

Languages: Proficiency in English (Level C) and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).

Proven ability to draft technical and policy documents and coordinate multi-stakeholder processes.

Experience in data analysis, project management, and intersectoral policy development.

Strategic understanding of agrifood systems transformation with a biodiversity lens.

Familiarity with international governance related to biodiversity and food systems.

Excellent writing skills in English; proficiency in Spanish or French is an asset.
