Description

The Agricultural Specialist may collect and manage agricultural data, participate in project planning, develop project packages, respond to stakeholders.  They will specially offer technical and science expertise for the Conservancy’s Soil Health program on issues of improved crop management including soil management, climate-smart agriculture, multifunctional landscapes, and food systems analysis and planning. They will contribute to efforts to establish TNC as a global leader in the application of soil sciences to conservation challenges. RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Performs fieldwork, including soil conservation, restoration and field monitoring with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
  • May work with small group of staff, interns or volunteers on a project basis, supervise technical, administrative and professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training and development.
  • May coordinate the soil health demonstration site network, in TNC landscapes and will work with external partners, possibly with whom participating farmers will be recruited and implementation methodologies developed.
  • Coordinates multiple tasks or projects in a timely manner and with attention to detail.
  • May assist the manager with program management, e.g. negotiating and contracting with vendors, budget preparation and monitoring.
  • Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
  • Makes day to day decision as delegated by the supervisor.
