Biodiversity loss and climate change are deeply connected, yet policies and projects still often treat them as separate challenges.

This video from the BESPIN Regional Trialogue for Europe and Central Asia explores what that separation can mean in practice, from fragmented implementation and gaps in climate-related biodiversity data to the need for stronger community participation, more inclusive economic transitions and new approaches to financing conservation and adaptation.

The discussion examines why climate resilience depends on reducing climate risks along with investment in healthy ecosystems, livelihoods and communities.

Beyond Separate Solutions: Nature and Climate Together

Gran Tescual: Five Worlds of Life explores the Indigenous worldview of the Gran Tescual Reserve in Puerres, Nariño, Colombia.

Through the five worlds of spirits, minerals, water, plants and animals, the video shows how territory, biodiversity, culture and ancestral knowledge are deeply interconnected. It offers a community-centred perspective on caring for nature, protecting cultural identity and understanding the land as a living system.

In Yoko, Cameroon, the municipal forest is being managed with conservation at its core. This documentary looks at how the municipality and local communities are restoring forest landscapes, developing agroforestry and other livelihood activities, and working with national and international partners to reduce pressure on the forest.

It also examines the wider biodiversity context in Cameroon, from research and data gaps to ecosystem services and national conservation priorities, and the role of BES-Net in bringing scientists, policymakers and practitioners together to support biodiversity action.
