The Conservation Technology Associate manages and maintains conservation databases and provides technical support in GIS or other relational database technologies to Conservancy staff. This is a 2 year position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Conservation Technology Associate processes spatial and/or relational data sets derived from cartographic and tabular source material. They perform data analysis and produce reports, provide hardware and software support, and train staff. They build, maintain, and populate data and record databases and manual files, produce maps and/or other graphic products and reports, and develop and maintain GIS library and/or database products library.
The Conservation Technology Associate develops, analyzes and manages data sources in a variety of formats. This may include one or more of the following functions:
- Digitize data, clean large datasets, manipulate data, and conduct quality assurance review and tests on data
- Provide spatial analysis, maps, charts and reports to support planning and prioritization efforts
- Publish data to the web and create web maps and web applications.
- Assist team with project management, as needed.
- Curate GIS data and Esri mxd documents, as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- May supervise a small staff, interns and/or volunteers.
- May negotiate and contract with vendors.
- May help develop work plans and project budgets.
- Ensures integrity of both data collection and management relating to conservation projects and project statistics.
- Works under minimal supervision making independent decisions based on experience and judgment.
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
