This is an incredible opportunity for a proven editing and publishing professional to play a key role in the publication of a vital journal and support our organisation as a thought-leader in our sector.
In producing an exceptional publication, you will be helping raise awareness of developing countries and urban areas and ensuring the spotlight is firmly on these areas when it comes to international development efforts.
We recognise that this is a varied role; the managing editor component is core, but we are also seeking people with experience of copyediting, social media editing and/or substantive editing. We may find all of this in one person, but we will also consider a job share/split. With this in mind, we encourage you to apply if you are strong in any of the areas
What’s more, for the right candidate, there may be opportunities for the role to gradually evolve to focus on substantive editing. If this sounds like the kind of role where you could thrive, we want to hear from you.
The Role
As a Managing Editor, you will ensure the smooth and timely production and publication of Environment and Urbanization, from receipt of articles to final print publication.
You will guide the journal through its next period, utilising your perspective to ensure a transformative publication.
Your core duties will include:
– Managing the production schedule
– Liaising with the authors and the journal’s publisher, SAGE
– Organising reviews and working with peer reviewers
– Running plagiarism checks and generally ensuring quality control
– Sourcing photographs, graphics, etc.
– Organising translations
– Managing Book Notes (summaries of relevant books)
Depending on your skill set, you may also be involved in:
– Maintaining the websites (with colleagues from the Communications Group and SAGE)
– Overseeing marketing and press, including collaborating with Communications Group colleagues and maintaining the journal’s social media accounts
– Copyediting and formatting the papers (including checking referencing, graphics, tables, etc.)
