WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The State Forest Action Plan Coordinator will oversee the implementation of the goals and strategies identified in the Tennessee Forest Action Plan. This person will work with both internal and external partners to guide collaborations and capture accomplishments as they pertain to the action step under each goal and strategy.  This is a shared position between TNC and the Tennessee Division of Forestry (TDF), with funding provided by the USDA US Forest Service and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry.  Coordinator responsibilities will include:

  1. Forest Action Plan Coordination:
    • Develop accomplishment tracking mechanism for both external and internal use.
    • Partner with Forest Stewardship Program Specialist to conduct annual Stewardship Coordinating Committee meeting to discuss implementation progress.
    • Organize collaborative meetings with key stakeholders to ensure the Forest Action Plan is being considered in their conservation planning efforts.
    • Outreach and educate decision makers to the existence and importance of the Forest Action Plan.
    • Contribute as co-author to the Forest Action Plan for future updates and rewrites.
    • Represent TNC conservation priorities to stakeholders and seek opportunities to align priorities.
  2. Post natural disaster event rehabilitation technical assistance plan for Sevier County communities in and around the footprint of Wears Valley.
    • Develop list of collaborators and partners.
    • Interview TDF Forest Health and Sustainability Unit, Fire Management Unit staff, and other conservation partners to understand and document appropriate post natural disaster event forest and vegetation management strategies.
    • Provide for post fire project management to include collaboration, community engagement, site assessment, and planned course of action.
    • Incorporate Urban wood utilization concepts.
    • Publish and outreach a post natural disaster rehabilitation manual.
  3. Accomplishment reporting & other administrative duties.

This is a 2-year term role with potential for extension, contingent on additional funding. Preferred geography location is East Tennessee. Salary range is $53K – $68K, depending on location and experience.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • BA/BS, 5 years’ experience in natural resource management, preferably forestry or fire; or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
  • Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Understanding of state forest action plans.
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Knowledge of forest management practice and conservation science.
  • Ability to explain forest management practices to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in forest management, and natural resource conservation.
  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
