Description

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organizations, seeks a Gender and Participation Officer (GPS) for the GEF-UNDP funded project “Towards Joint Integrated, Ecosystem-based Management of the Pacific Central American Coastal Large Marine Ecosystem (PACA),” based in Guatemala.

The GPS will ensure the generation of project outputs and outcomes, coordinate the implementation of gender and participation plans, and support the TDA/SAP process. The position reports to the Project Manager and works closely with the project team, WWF Mesoamerica, and the wider WWF network on gender and stakeholder engagement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Organize training for project staff and partners in gender, cultural sensitivity, and inclusive language.

  • Coordinate implementation of the Gender Action Plan and Stakeholder Engagement Plan.

  • Develop and implement gender and inclusion strategies (output 2.3).

  • Prepare guidelines for participatory processes, gender-sensitive practices, and inclusive communications.

  • Ensure project documentation reflects gender and social perspectives.

  • Apply all relevant GEF and UNDP gender and stakeholder policies and guidelines.

  • Ensure timely delivery of project outputs and outcomes.

  • Support implementation of the TDA/SAP process and work plans.

  • Promote communication and experience-sharing among project stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with the Knowledge Management Specialist to document lessons learned.

  • Contribute to monitoring and reporting on gender and stakeholder indicators.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Citizen of Guatemala or foreign resident in Guatemala.

  • Master’s degree in social sciences, local development, gender studies, sociology, or anthropology.

  • At least 7 years of experience in gender work, interdisciplinary teams, and participatory processes.

  • Formal training in gender.

  • Experience in GEF project work or marine ecosystem governance is desirable.

Skills and Abilities

  • Written and oral fluency in Spanish and English.

  • Experience in participatory methodologies, training, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Knowledge of instructional design and communication strategies.

  • Strong negotiation and diplomatic skills.

  • Strong organizational discipline and creative problem-solving abilities.

  • Willingness to travel across PACA project countries (Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
