Description

Analyst, Forest Climate Policy

With world attention on both the environment and the economy, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is where policymakers and business leaders turn for win-win solutions. By focusing on strong science, uncommon partnerships and market-based approaches, we tackle urgent threats with practical solutions. We are one of the world’s largest environmental organizations, with more than two million members and a staff of approximately 700 scientists, economists, policy experts, and other professionals around the world. We operate in 22 geographies with unique projects running across four programs. You will be part of a vibrant workplace where innovation and results are a way of life.

EDF envisions a world in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected to the environmental challenges we face and are engaged in creating durable, equitable solutions. We seek talented candidates who share our Core Values of Respect, Results, Innovation, Optimism, and Integrity, and support our Commitment to Diversity.

Program Overview

Environmental Defense Fund’s Climate program works to promote ambitious market-based climate policies around the globe with a focus on the top-emitting countries and sectors, as well as those projected to rise the most in the future — including in North America, where we have championed California’s cap-and-trade program and work to increase the ambition of federal policy; in Latin America, where we work to reduce emissions from tropical deforestation; in India, where we promote low-carbon rural development; and at the international level, including in the aviation and shipping sectors and in UN negotiations.

Overall Function

EDF’s Climate team seeks an Analyst to provide critical research, analysis, and coordination to support our efforts to accelerate understanding of and investment in nature-based climate solutions. The Analyst will inform our work to protect tropical forests on a scale that supports a stable climate, including by helping to generate broad stakeholder consensus among on what constitutes high-integrity tropical forest protection carbon credits and securing commitments from leading companies to purchase these credits. They will assist team members and partners with crucial analytical and research projects; help coordinate strategic outreach to civil society and other diverse stakeholders; support multi-stakeholder collaborations and processes; and coordinate with EDF colleagues on cross-functional and matrixed workstreams.

The Analyst will report to the Director for Climate and Forests. They will work with other analysts, natural scientists, and policy specialists across the Climate program and throughout EDF as well as within academia and other partner organizations.
