Description

Under the overall supervision of the Director of the Division for Science Policy and Capacity-Building (PCB), and the direct supervision of the Chief of the Small Islands and Indigenous Knowledge Section, the incumbant will work together with the responsible programme specialist to support PCB’s Local and Indigenous Knowledge Systems (LINKS) programme and in particular the extrabudgetary project Biodiversity and Ecosystems Network (BES-Net) phase II programme (2020-2028) in concert with the extrabudgetary IPBES Technical Support Team on Indigenous and Local Knowledge Systems (IPBES Work programme 2020-2022).

Specifically the incumbant shall:
Work to implement LINKS’ responsibilities within BES-Net II, in particular in ensuring that indigenous and local knowledge (ILK), and the participation of indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLC), become central to the BES-Net process;
Communicate and coordinate with UNESCO partners in UNDP and UNEP WCMC;
Strengthen ILK components and the participation of indigenous peoples and local communities in science-policy-practice interactions and networks within the BES-Net Trialogues;
Support work with ILK and the participation of IPLCs within National Ecosystems Assessments (NEAs) and national science policy platforms;
Support implementation of priority BES solutions, by enhancing the IPLC/practitioner community representatives’ engagement in the national BES platforms and their participation in and contribution to the post-Trialogue/NEA activities;
Provide technical, logistical, communications, facilitation and reporting support to activities necessary to implement the project; 
Support LINKS within the BES-Net Process including fulfilling reporting functions. Notably support general monitoring and reporting on related activities through SISTER, update of the project database and drafting of reports in liaison with colleagues at HQ and field offices.
