Description

The Restoration Technician will participate on a seasonal crew that will be used to conduct restoration activities primarily on the Big Piney Ranger District of the Ozark National Forest.  This crew will be working directly as part of the incumbent’s ongoing professional development, they will be responsible for keeping abreast of new prescribed burning, NNIS control and woodland restoration techniques, enhance knowledge of local flora, complete a herbicide treatment course, and maintain/grow professional fire certification credentials.  In addition, they shall work to build and maintain relationships with the National Wild Turkey Federation, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, US Forest Service, and other partners in fire, woodland restoration, and local community where the Conservancy works. This work may include participation in wild land fire suppression activities in partnership with other non-profits, local fire departments, and local, state and federal agencies, either as a TNC employee, or as a volunteer or short-term employee of the partner entity (such as an administratively determined, short term federal employee). They will be based on US Forest Service property in Hector, Arkansas in Pope County.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Will perform other preserve management duties when conditions are not conducive to restoration activities.
  • Works in a high stress team environment.
  • Works under close supervision while expected to take initiative and personal responsibility.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
