IUCN is supporting the delivery of contributions to global conservation goals through a focus on biodiversity, based on its policies, global standards and data. This approach will allow governments, civil society and business (including companies and finance industry), to assess their positive and negative impacts on biodiversity (species and ecosystems) and enable them to set targets and report on their progress towards a nature positive world.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

This role works through the Centre for Science and Data to support the Union in formulating and delivering contributions to the species and ecosystem goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. This will be achieved by collaboration with Secretariat Centres, Regional Offices, Commissions, and selected Members, to develop and disseminate publications, guidance and communications materials. The role will also support collaboration with private sector partners in co-development, piloting and advisory exchanges to ensure that materials are developed efficiently and according to user needs.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

– Coordinate the production of working paper on Nature-Positive, ensuring the focus on specie and ecosystems is further developed into IUCN products and positions
– Assist the Centre for Economy and Finance in engaging with private sector on the application of species and ecosystem approaches to Nature-Positive, including the use of IBAT where applicable
– In collaboration with members of the Centre for Science and Data, and members of the STAR Interim Committee, lead the production of resources to promote and facilitate the application of the Calibrated and Realised STAR methodology and contribute to scoping and implementation of on-line partially automated mechanisms for users to apply the methodology;
– Support the development of an ecosystem metric using IUCN’s metrics and standards
– In collaboration with the Centre for Economy and Finance, and through consultation across the Union, and through engaging with appropriate industry and standard-setting working groups and platforms, support the development of appropriate standards and principles, develop draft guidance and help to define an IUCN role for biodiversity credits;
– Working with IUCN Global Communications Unit, IUCN Commissions and Regional Offices to develop and deploy communications around Nature-Positive and Biodiversity Credits, specifically focusing on engagement with IUCN Members including governments;
– In collaboration with the Centre for Economy and Finance and the Centre for Society and Governance, work with specific national governments to develop and implement country pilots for Nature-Positive, engagement around biodiversity credits and other conservation finance mechanisms, and support knowledge of this work into the CBD.
