Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,

The Plenary, at its ninth session (IPBES 9), held in Bonn, Germany, from 3 to 9 July 2022, approved the organization of a youth workshop as part of its work under objective 2 of the IPBES work programme: building capacity.

Governments and relevant institutions and organizations are herewith invited to nominate candidates to participate in the youth workshop to be held on the Isle of Vilm, Germany, from 19 to 23 October 2022.

The workshop aims to strengthen the engagement of young people in the work of IPBES, and to support the uptake of assessments among young people, other individuals and organizations. Participants will also be invited, in collaboration with the task force on scenarios and models, to explore possible nature futures and to contribute to the work on scenarios and models.

The workshop will consist of 25 participants, with five participants from each of the five UN regions (Africa, Asia and Pacific, Eastern Europe, Latin America and Caribbean, Western Europe and others).

Governments are invited to nominate candidates representing a youth organization or network in their region.

Youth organizations and networks engaged in work on biodiversity and ecosystem services may nominate a member of their organization or network to participate in the youth workshop. Nominating organizations or institutions are not required to have been admitted to the Plenary of IPBES as an observer.

Nominated candidates should be between 18-30 years of age, member of a youth organization or network, and actively engaged in relevant work on biodiversity and ecosystem including on the two reports approved by IPBES 9 (values assessment, and sustainable use of wild species assessment).
