Description

The External Affairs Associate coordinates the internal planning and the external strategic engagement of The Nature Conservancy with targeted public sector agencies (e.g. United Kingdom). They provide research and policy analysis in support of The Nature Conservancy’s policy and/or corporate practice priorities and tracks policies and decisions that directly affect conservation goals. They build and facilitate internal networks, coordinating meetings, agendas, and presentations.  They provide services that assist in influencing the outcome of policy and/or corporate initiatives at the international, country, sub-national, and local levels. They develop strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, and industry to advance the organization’s conservation agenda.  They cultivate external networks, coalitions and platforms that are relevant for the public agencies by sharing TNC’s science, implementation and policy advocacy recommendations and, contributes to build the policy narratives.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Develops and manages the engagement strategy of targeted public sector agencies (e.g UK); creates a clear and effective workplan and tracks its implementation; responsible for internal and external communication and liaison; prioritizes engagement and facilitates access.
  • Works across TNC as the connecting agent between several matrixed internal teams in regards to policy and public funding engagement opportunities with the public agencies; finds opportunities and create strategic high value connections to other TNC strategies and departments, to foster and maintain collaboration and communication.
  • Understands the policy state of play of key public sector agencies (e.g. from the UK) and informs engagement opportunities in regards to policy advocacy and public funding to support the implementation of programs on biodiversity and climate change (mitigation/adaptation).
  • Provides research and policy analysis in support to legislative, corporate and/or policy priorities.
  • Develops and maintains a strong network with priority public sector agencies related to biodiversity and climate change.
  • Develops strategic partnerships with additional stakeholders (e.g NGOs, business) and engages with priority coalitions and working groups.
  • Contributes to influencing the outcome of policy initiatives relevant to international, country, sub-national, and local levels.
  • Identifies and prioritizes opportunities for accessing and mobilizing funding and finance and develops and meets public fundraising goals.
  • Provides assistance with preparation of program materials including presentations, memos, and other communications.
  • Assists the Director Public Institutions Europe in adaptive management and reporting on the engagement with targeted institutions.
  • Works within a budget to complete projects, negotiates and contracts with vendors and assists with budget development
  • May supervise administrative staff and/or volunteers, interns, or temporary staff.
  • Once travel is approved for TNC employees, may involve domestic and international travel at 20%
