To help advance federal policies that are national priorities for TNC and to help achieve TNC goals in New Jersey, the Federal Affairs Associate supports The Nature Conservancy’s conservation goals by serving as the liaison and informational contact between The Nature Conservancy in New Jersey and federal representatives and staff. addition, the position will also provide some policy analysis and government relations support at the state government level.  The Federal Affairs Associate is part of a government relations team that works closely with both New Jersey staff and The Nature Conservancy’s North America regional policy and government relations team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Federal Affairs Associate coordinates with The Nature Conservancy’s North America policy and government relations team and New Jersey Conservancy staff to affect federal public policy to further the Conservancy’s mission. Duties include regular and consistent contact with federal officials and staff on legislation and other public policy issues, as well as provide support on policy development and analysis for public policy issues such as climate mitigation and resilience, land, freshwater, and ocean protection, environmental justice, and infrastructure. The Federal Affairs Associate will also support policy research and development in New Jersey.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Serves as the primary contact and relationship manager with federal officials and staff on matters pertaining to legislative and other public policy.
  • Ensures that the program complies with U.S. lobbying laws and regulations.
  • Serves as a team leader for assigned New Jersey policy analysis projects.
  • May need to gain cooperation from individuals or groups (inside and outside the Conservancy) over whom there is no direct authority in order to accomplish program goals.
