Description

The Finance Manager works with Chapter leaders to develop the annual budget and monitor progress, providing quarterly reports and dashboards to staff and volunteer leaders. They also manage day-to-day business unit accounting, including contracts and invoices and responding to moderately complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the Conservancy’s financial protocols. The Finance Manager reports to and collaborates with the State Director and offers financial analysis and guidance to inform program planning and long-term fiscal management. They will keep up-to-date on market trends and best practices to improve and sustain systems and services. The position administers and maintains finance/accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial management. Work may shift between various departmental duties, and thus requires a flexible and enthusiastic team player. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Ensures Conservancy policies and procedures, GAAP, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
  • Provides timely and accurate financial reports and analysis to board members and project managers.
  • Develops and monitors budget, forecast, sustainability, and strategic financial plans.
  • Performs general accounting duties (may include managing external accounting vendor), to include: basic journal entries for transfers, loans, land transactions, accruals, deferred revenue and expense corrections.
  • Reviews and monitors income statement and balance sheet (including pledges) items at month and year-end close.
  • Collaborates with Grants Specialists on managing public awards.
  • Conducts day-to-day financial activities such as purchasing, processing invoices, negotiating, and contracting with vendors, including ensuring contracted vendors carry required insurance coverage and that appropriate documentation is obtained and maintained.
  • Maintains confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally-charged information.
  • Works toward the strategic priorities of the program by developing tactics for approved plans and completing day-to-day tasks.
