The consultant shall develop and implement graphic designs, layouts and content for communication and outreach materials (e.g., publications, videos, etc.) and web-based platforms for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF), in particular with respect to work under the Forest Ecosystem Restoration Initiative (FERI); the Sustainable Ocean Initiative (SOI), and the Peace and Biodiversity Dialogue Initiative (PBDI). This shall be done with the direct input and oversight of the Programme Management officer for forest biodiversity / ecosystem restoration and of the Programme Management officer for marine, coastal and island biodiversity and the Head of Biodiversity Science, Policy and Governance Unit. The consultant shall also coordinate with the communications teams and the information technology team at the Secretariat.
Work Location
The consultant must be available to work onsite in the CBD Secretariat Office in Montreal, Canada, if need be, to participate physically in team meetings. Commuting/travelling costs to and from the Secretariat are not reimbursed.

Duties and Responsibilities
The consultant will work under the supervision of and report to the Senior Programme Management Officer, Head of Biodiversity Science, Policy and Governance Unit; the Programme Management officer for Forest Biodiversity and Ecosystem Restoration; and the Programme Management officer for Marine, Coastal and Island Biodiversity, Biodiversity Science, Policy, and Governance Unit, Science, Society and Sustainable Futures Division.
The consultant will be responsible for producing and implementing graphic designs, layouts and content for communication and outreach materials (e.g., infographics, presentations, videos, etc.). These shall be developed in line with an agreed-upon timeline and in coordination with the communications strategy of the Secretariat, as well as relevant guidelines (e.g., branding guidelines).
He/she will perform the following duties:
- Design and update communication material, including content for updating the websites, social media posts (LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter/X), fact cards and web stories to disseminate the activities conducted by the teams, including global observance events, side events at the major meetings, including UNFF 19, KM-GBF, PBDI related events, and so on.
- Produce video materials (1 to 5min) on the work of KM-GBF, FERI, PBDI, SOI, and etc.
- Provide layout and graphic design for publications and develop presentation templates related to KM-GBF and forest, KM-GBF, PBDI, and SOI.
Qualifications
Academic qualifications
University degree in environmental science, environmental management, sustainable development or related fields, or in communications/outreach, information technology or related fields is required.
Working experience
Five years of experience in communications/outreach, information technology or related fields while servicing conservation and environmental management and/or science communication is required. These fields would include graphic design and content management, video production and video editing, developing user experience and user interface design principles and conceptual design.
Skills
- Skills in graphic design and content management are required.
- Skills and experience in video production and editing is required.
- Proven ability to write clearly and concisely in English is required.
- Experience or knowledge in the field of conservation and environmental management and/or in science communication is required.
- Skills and experience in concepts of user experience (UX), user interface design principles and conceptual design is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is desirable.
