The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is recruiting In-Country Coordinators to support the Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP), a high-level international initiative launched to accelerate action on forests and climate change.

The Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership was launched during COP26 and expanded at COP27 to support the implementation of the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use.

The partnership aims to:

  • Halt and reverse forest loss by 2030.
  • Combat land degradation.
  • Support biodiversity conservation.
  • Advance sustainable development goals.
  • Promote inclusive rural transformation.
  • Mobilize climate finance and investment.

Available assignments include:

  • One Coordinator supporting the Government of Ghana.
  • One Coordinator supporting the Government of Kenya.
  • One Coordinator supporting the Governments of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo.
  • One Coordinator supporting Asia-Pacific countries, including Cambodia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Vietnam.

The positions are home-based and offered under a UNOPS Individual Contractor Agreement at the ICS-10 (IICA-2) level, subject to performance, funding availability, organizational requirements and project duration.

Job responsibilities

Coordination and Reporting

  • Develop and monitor annual FCLP country workplans.
  • Prepare reports, updates and briefing documents.
  • Support national participation in major events and international meetings.
  • Coordinate communication between national and international stakeholders.

Governance and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support participation in FCLP governance structures.
  • Coordinate inputs from government ministries and agencies.
  • Facilitate engagement with private sector actors and development partners.
  • Prepare policy briefs, talking points and strategic documents.

Country Package Implementation

  • Support the design and implementation of national action plans.
  • Organize workshops, dialogues and consultations.
  • Align activities with national climate and biodiversity strategies.
  • Support investment pipeline development.

Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Engagement

  • Strengthen collaboration with Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs).
  • Support implementation of land tenure commitments where applicable.
  • Monitor participation and inclusion efforts.

Climate Finance and Carbon Markets

  • Support engagement with climate finance initiatives.
  • Facilitate dialogue with donors and investors.
  • Provide technical analysis on carbon market frameworks.
  • Support partnerships related to results-based climate finance.

Job requirements

Education

Applicants must have either:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with at least seven years of relevant professional experience; or
  • A Master’s degree with at least five years of relevant experience.

Relevant fields include:

Additional certifications in project management, climate finance, forest management or carbon markets are considered advantageous.

Professional Experience

  • Working with government institutions.
  • Multi-stakeholder coordination and facilitation.
  • Climate, biodiversity, forestry or sustainable development projects.
  • Partnership development and stakeholder engagement.
  • Knowledge-sharing and policy dialogue processes.

Desirable experience includes:

  • REDD+ initiatives.
  • ART TREES programmes.
  • Jurisdictional carbon markets.
  • Climate finance mechanisms.
  • Land tenure and governance projects.
  • International environmental partnerships.

Skills and Competencies

  • Project and programme management expertise.

Candidates should also be willing to travel nationally and internationally when required.
