The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading globalenvironmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This post is located in the Barcelona Convention Secretariat, Mediterranean Action Plan Coordinating Unit of the Ecosystems Division, at the Athens duty station.

Under the overall guidance of the Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Deputy Coordinator, the incumbent will lead the execution, management, monitoring and evaluation of the “Mediterranean Sea Programme (MedProgramme): Enhancing Environment Security”, a multi-focal area Global Environment Facility (GEF) programmatic approach designed to accelerate the implementation of agreed upon priority actions to reduce the major transboundary environmental stresses affecting the Mediterranean Sea and its coastal areas, while strengthening climate resilience and water security and improving the health and livelihoods of coastal populations.
