Description

The objective of the consultancy is to conduct research to develop analysis regarding environmental issues such as air quality, climate change, pollution and marine litter, biodiversity conservation, green economy, sustainable transport and other key environmental topics for Mexico and Guatemala, providing relevant information for a communication strategy; also, in case it will be required, support coordination on webinars, workshop, and seminaries on relevant those topics. In addition, manage and feed the social networks.

Responsibilities and activities to be performed by the consultant will include, but are not limited to:

– Conduct research of data and information of programmes and projects related air quality, climate change, pollution, marine and plastic pollution, biodiversity conservation, green economy, sustainable transport and other key environmental topics of Mexico and Guatemala, at national and subnational level.
– Generate inputs and develop communication materials for the environmental communication strategies for Mexico and Guatemala and UNEP’s Programme of Work for both countries.
– Collect and systematize information of stakeholders, such as Public Sector in the three levels of governments (Federal, State and Municipal governments), NGOs, Private Sector, Academia, Foundations relevant to the environmental agenda in Mexico and Guatemala.
– Mapping of entities and relevant contacts of the projects and programmes in Mexico and Guatemala, alongside analysed and generate a data base.
– Participate in meetings and activities related to joint communication initiatives generated by the UN Cooperation Framework of Mexico and Guatemala, specifically by the Environment´s Results Group of these UN Cooperation Frameworks.
– Coordinate with UNEP’s Regional Communication team the communication strategy to feed social media.
– Prepares or oversees preparation of a diverse range of information communications products in support of major communications initiatives and ensures compliance with UNEP branding, standards and guidelines.
– Drafts material translating technical concepts into non-technical language for UNEP reports, social media and website, and other communication as requested by UNEP’s Representative Officer in Mexico.
– Produces communications and outreach materials for print/electronic/voice/visual media; develops and implements social media communication strategy targeting diverse groups of stakeholders, including development partners, international and regional organizations, civil society, non-governmental organizations, business, and academia.
– Collaborate with UNEP´s projects leaders in disseminating partial or final results as well as activities related to the projects which UNEP implements in Mexico and Guatemala.
– Coordinate the dissemination of UNEP´s global campaigns such as Breathelife, Clean Seas, the New Plastic Economy, among others.
– Represent UNEP in the Interagency Communication and Information Group (ICGII).
– Participate and support, when it is required, in workshops, meetings, seminars and other activities related to UNEP´s projects of Mexico and Guatemala as well as the UN Cooperation Frameworks of both countries.
– Participate and support, when it is required, in workshops, meetings, seminars and other activities led by the UN Residents Coordination Offices of Mexico and Guatemala.
– Draft meeting notes, briefings, and internal minutes as required.
– Execute other tasks, as requested by UNEP’s Representative Officer in Mexico
– Delivery of a Workplan start of the consultancy to support the monitoring of the work.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), established in 1972, is the voice for the environment within the United Nations system. UN Environment acts as a catalyst, advocate, educator, and facilitator to promote the wise use and sustainable development of the global environment. UN Environment aims at inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

To accomplish this, UNEP´s Headquarter and its Regional and Country offices work with a wide range of partners, including other United Nations entities, international organizations, national governments, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and civil society.

ACADEMIC:

– University degree (Bachelor’s) in Communication, Journalism, Graphic Design, Marketing, International Relations, Environment and Sustainable Development, Business related areas or Environmental related areas is required.

PROFESSIONAL:

– At least four (4) years of relevant work experience in environmental communication in any of the following topics: climate change, sustainable education, plastic pollution, agenda 2030, biodiversity or other environmental matters is required.
– Previous work with public sector or international organizations will be an asset.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

– Proven ability to manage social media networks.
– Proven ability to manage Photoshop, Illustrator and Windows Movie.
– Be computer literate in standard software applications.
– Knowledge of Excel and other database programs.
– Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
– Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
– Ability to deliver timely and high-quality results under tight deadlines.
– Excellent coordination skills, and an ability to follow instructions, work under pressure as a part of a team, or independently as required.
– Excellent attention to detail.

Languages

Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
