Description

Our group is currently working on biodiversity governance from different angles. Key themes we focus on are the Convention on Biological Diversity and its national implementation through National Biodiversity Strategies, policy integration, or the governance of agri-food systems and their biodiversity impacts. DAISY (DigitAl, TechnologIcal and Social innovation mixes enabling biodiversity and equitY) will analyze land-use processes with transformative potential, and identify, weave together, and test transformative intervention mixes (TIMs) to learn about transformation and key enabling factors. We are looking for a new colleague to support us with this project and potentially develop their own ideas for projects and funding. Experience has shown that further funding opportunities will likely arise to extend the position.

Your tasks

  • Coordination of the work package on governance and enablers of transformative change.
  • Identify barriers and facilitators of transformative change for biodiversity in selected policy areas.
  • Literature review and synthesis on transformative policy dynamics and development of contributions to transformative intervention mixes in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Conduct policy analyses and contribute to a social network analysis.
  • Exchange and synthesis within the project context.
  • Multi-day international travel for project meetings.

We offer

  • The freedom to master even the most demanding challenges between basic research and practical application.
  • The chance to work in interdisciplinary, international teams and benefit from a variety of perspectives.
  • First-class integration into national and international research networks to work together on global challenges.
  • Excellent research infrastructure and research data management to optimally support your work.
  • Flexible working hours and a wide range of options for balancing work and care responsibilities through our family office.
  • Competent support and advice for international colleagues arriving at the UFZ from the ‘International Office’.
  • Special annual payment, capital-forming benefits, and subsidized Germany Job Ticket.
  • A workplace in a vibrant region with a high quality of life and social and cultural diversity.

Your profile

  • A completed PhD in Political Science, Governance, Development Studies, or a comparable field with relevant social science background is highly recommended, or demonstrated comparable work experience.
  • Knowledge in social network analysis, policy integration, and transformative governance is an advantage.
  • Strong communication skills in English are essential; German is desirable.
  • Experience in project management and organizing academic meetings is required.
  • Experience in leading synthesis processes is an advantage.
