Position summary:

Rainforest Alliance is implementing two projects in Peru, Forest Allies and Powering Productivity and Soil Health. Those projects are being funded by the private sector and international cooperation. The projects implemented by Rainforest Alliance cover a large scope of themes in the agricultural and environmental sector, like improving livelihoods in native communities, improving access to market, strengthening capabilities, increasing productivity, reducing carbon footprint, and improving income for women.

For that reason, at Rainforest Alliance we are looking for a performance-oriented, collaborative, and impact-driven Senior Associate, Project Coordinator, responsible for managing and monitoring the development of some of the projects implemented by Rainforest Alliance. To that end, the Senior Associate, Project Coordinator will plan activities, contract consultants, monitor indicators, report progress externally and internally, manage the Project Management Platform (PMP) of Rainforest Alliance.

She/He will support the design and implementation of the Integrated Community Forest Management approach in partnership with the Rainforest Alliance’s Indigenous Community partners. The selected candidate will play a key role planning, coordinating and implementing project activities in alignment with the Rainforest Alliance’s Integrated Community Forest Management model. In addition, the Associate will be responsible regular reporting, monitoring and evaluation and contributing to communications activities.

She/he reports directly to the Senior Manager, Sustainable Landscapes and in close coordination with other Rainforest Alliance departments, manages and contributes to the implementation of the projects.

Forest Allies is a community of practice that brings together companies, regional civil society organizations, and forest communities for targeted projects that protect, restore, and enable the responsible management of tropical forests around the world. A key component of Forest Allies is our project portfolio which implement the Rainforest Alliance’s model Integrated Community Forest Management, which focuses on both protecting natural forests and partnering with communities to build thriving local economies. In the San Martín region of Peru, the Rainforest Alliance is working with 14 indigenous communities to develop successful, sustainable forest enterprises that fight deforestation and degradation while helping to ensure a bright future for those who live there. We are also exploring other important areas and regions in Peru.

Powering Productivity and Soil Health is another initiative aimed to improve productivity of coffee farmers in the region between PichanakiSatipo, and Pangoa. The project will stablish some demo-plots and train farmers on new fertilization techniques to recover soil health.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the technical execution of the Forest Allies, Powering Productivity and Soil Health, Babel, Estee Lauder, among others assigned;
  • Plan activities for the projects;
  • Hire and supervise consultants;
  • Monitor project indicators;
  • Coordinate with the administrative and financial area the payments, contracts and other related activities;
  • Based on their knowledge and experience, participate in the implementation of certain project activities;
  • Lead the Project Management Platform. Also Lead the implementation of the MICI Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning process, at least annually;
  • Provide technical assistance and training to indigenous community partners in selected regions, promoting the implementation of sustainable agriculture and forest management practices;
  • Coordinate and support activities to engage other local stakeholders, including indigenous associations and organizations, civil society, government organizations, and other institutions, as necessary to meet project objectives;
  • Participate in technical committees and round tables with key partners in the region, providing advice on the implementation of community-led responsible forest management;
  • Integrate gender mainstreaming in all project activities, promoting the inclusion of women and youth in leadership roles;
  • Develop communication materials as needed to support the objectives of increasing the visibility of forest communities;
  • Report on the progress of projects internally and externally to donors;
  • Maintain good relations and liaison with interested parties; and
  • Identifies opportunities for other projects or initiatives. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to agriculture, forestry, environment, and natural resources. Master’s degree preferably
  • Minimum work experience of 8 years. Proven experience (4 year’s) coordinating or managing projects.
  • 5 to 7 years of proven experience in provide technical assistance and training to producers especially in sustainable forest management or agroforestry practices, reporting and verification system (MRV) and experience of working with actors at different levels including producer associations, local governments, indigenous peoples, communities and nationalities, the private sector, and other actors in the territory. (desirable with indigenous and peasant communities of the Amazon Region)
  • Experience implementing environmental and social projects.
  • Knowledge on issues of conservation and management of natural resources in the Amazonia
  • Experience managing people or consultants.
  • Experience using software or platforms for project management.
  • Spanish language skills (native), English (advanced level in verbal and writing).
  • Availability to travel often and move in the territories where the Project is present
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a time-sensitive manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact culturally, linguistically, and diplomatically with various internal and external people.
  • Motivated, ingenious, reliable and with a great attention to detail.
