Description

The Senior Conservation Analyst has primary responsibility for designing and implementing efficient and repeatable analyses of ecological, physical, and social datasets to inform conservation planning and decision making. This includes designing and maintaining spatial toolsets, producing maps and other data visualization products, contributing to the design of adaptive management and monitoring frameworks, authoring professional reports, and ensuring efficient data management. They also supervise staff, develop and maintain GIS and other database libraries and documentation, lead and assist with project management, provide hardware and software support, engage in science communication to diverse audiences, and potentially manage external partners and contractors.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

Within the scope of the position, the Senior Conservation Analyst will:

  • Design, implement, and direct complex and diverse projects, encompassing multiple programs and coordinating the work of other professionals inside and outside the organization.
  • Incorporate cross-disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives.
  • Under limited supervision, act independently to resolve complex issues with the program area and act as a resource to others.
  • In supervisory capacity, plan, organize and direct assigned project programs; supervise staff including but not limited to Analysts, Specialists, and Technicians.
  • Create high-quality maps and other data visualization products to communicate conservation actions or objectives, inform planning efforts, and engage diverse audiences.
  • Ensure integrity of data collection and management relating to conservation projects and project statistics.
  • Integrate new technologies and innovative approaches for data collection, management, analysis, and visualization.
  • Manage projects on a large geographic scale.
  • Travel as needed to project sites and professional activities.

Work Environment and Schedule

  • Position will have a hybrid work arrangement split between employee’s home office and TNC’s office in Boulder, CO.
  • Employee will be expected to travel occasionally to field sites across Colorado and potentially outside of the state, with frequency determined by business need. Infrequent overnight travel is expected. Position requires working safely outdoors with ability to hike over rough terrain for extended periods of time in poor weather conditions in remote locations.
