Description

This position, housed within the Office for Program Delivery (OPD), offers an excellent professional opportunity for a skilled and experienced technical content and language editor to contribute to institutional excellence in the delivery of Alliance key written scientific outputs. Under the guidance and supervision of the Science Writer and Editing Service Coordinator, the Specialist, Science Editing works as part of the Science Writing Service (SWS) team, one of the Alliance’s key research delivery services housed within the Office for Program Delivery, to ensure effective and efficient scientific writing and editing to scientists of the Alliance.
 

Key responsibilities
 

  • Provide high-level technical and English editing support (and written contributions where appropriate) to institutional scientists for: (i) Research-based manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals (including journal articles/ books and books); (ii) Donor/funder/CGIAR CRP technical progress reports;  and (iii) Other key institutional scientific deliverables such as technical reports and guidelines, workshop reports, project case studies, policy and donor briefs, country profiles and factsheets, ensuring that they meet language, format, and content requirements.

  • Contribute to reviewing, editing and synthesizing technical documents and journal articles, particularly those destined for the public domain, in liaison with institutional focal points as appropriate. These contributions will include ensuring:

    • a logical flow according to the linked impact pathways

    • appropriate integration of gender and youth inclusion aspects

    • compliance with donor, journal and institutional standards, procedures and guidelines in terms of language, logical consistency and content organization

  • Where feasible, provide science editing/writing cover for other SWS team members when they are unable to do this due to leave or other absences

  • Work closely with communications and proposal writing team members, where writing and editorial input may be required

  • Provide broader institutional support, as required
