Description

The Stewardship Coordinator provides technical leadership and directs preserve management and stewardship on preserve areas frequented by the visiting public, coordinates programs to engage local communities, maintains preserve infrastructure and manages external contractors to accomplish the NJ Chapter’s accessibility and land management goals in northern NJ. This position will require strategic thinking, good communication and planning skills as well as the ability to work well with a team to establish and expand stewardship and outreach efforts. Duties will include management planning for TNC preserves, coordinating with conservation partners; leading volunteer work teams to conduct habitat enhancement and infrastructure repairs on TNC preserves and other protected lands throughout northern New Jersey. There will also be an emphasis with this position to build relationships with Indigenous and local communities and with our Cities Program to advance greening efforts in and around our preserves. Core responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development of strategies and projects to advance the NJ Chapter’s preserve accessibility and land management goals.
  • Building cooperative relationships and collaborate with diverse groups, including preserve visitors, local communities, conservation partners, government agencies and donors to guide preserve management and programming at TNC preserves.
  • Manage TNC preserves for public accessibility and habitat management and advance similar initiatives on other preserved lands in NJ.
  • Working directly with our marketing team to leverage digital communications to engage target audiences on our flagship preserves.
  • Working with NJ’s Indigenous Communities to increase their use, and access to TNC lands and waters
  • Working in collaboration with our Cities Program staff to implement conservation work on preserves and in cities to advance NJ Chapter’s Equitable Conservation goals.
  • Performing tasks with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
