The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet’s wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America’s bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our staff of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and internationally from our offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Santa Monica; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing.

Position Summary:

NRDC is seeking a Data and Analysis intern to work with the Center for Policy Advocacy team from our Washington, DC office. This internship will be fully remote and NRDC will provide any work accommodations.  NRDC is seeking an intern to work with the Campaigns Team in our Center for Policy Advocacy department which bears primary responsibility for organizing NRDC campaigns in support of our policy goals, and which leads the development and execution of the organization’s power-building strategy. 

This internship is a paid Internship, requires a minimum work schedule of 30 hours per week and offers flexible hours. The position is available between July and September, 2021.

The intern will be supporting CPA’s work to strengthen NRDC’s strategic capacity and policy advocacy by gathering and mining data for analysis. This will include:

• Finding, assessing and downloading data from public sources.
• Cleaning & processing the data prior to analysis.
• Integration with datasets already on hand
• Analysis and write-up of observations and findings.
• Depending on the candidate’s skillset, running regressions and building models.
• Creating visualizations of the data and findings.
