We analyze a wide variety of data – on personal care products, household cleaners, processed foods, drinking water contaminants, pesticides – to expose risky practices and products, confront manufacturers and industries directly, and challenge the status quo to protect public health.

EWG seeks a scientist with a commitment to innovative research and advocacy focused on the environment and public health protection.

Responsibilities:

• Provide toxicology expertise for assessing safety of ingredients in cosmetics, food, cleaning products, sunscreens, and other consumer products.
• Compile, analyze and manage data on toxicity of product ingredients and environmental contaminants. You will be a member of the team that builds and maintains the EWG VERIFIED programs alongside EWG’s popular online databases rating the safety common sources of chemical exposures.
• Remain up-to-date on toxicology and environmental health issues relevant to EWG project areas.
• Produce written reports, some for publication in peer-reviewed journals, on chemical pollution and human health.
• Help EWG transform company practices and national policies to reduce people’s exposures to chemicals that pose risks to health.
• Develop original studies that inform consumers and the media about the health effects of chemicals in consumer products.
• Supervise, mentor and develop staff; currently one direct report (associate scientist).
