Description

Do you want to make a difference protecting and restoring the abundance of the oceans in Peru and the world? Come join a dedicated team of professionals who are working to protect our oceans, which play a critical role in reducing the impacts of climate change, feeding a growing global population, and supporting the livelihoods of fishers, their families, and their communities.

Founded in 2001, Oceana is the world’s largest nonprofit organization focused solely on restoring the resilience and abundance of the ocean. We achieve measurable change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with fixed deadlines and articulated goals. Our campaigns focus on getting policy changes in countries that, govern nearly one-third of the world’s wild-caught fish, including Belize, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the United States, Canada and the 27 countries in the European Union.

Oceana is seeking a Vice President to lead our office in Lima, Perú, which opened in 2015. This is an exciting position that will provide an opportunity for the right person to make a positive and long-lasting impact on the health of the world’s oceans. For this important role, Oceana seeks a leader with creativity, ambition, demonstrated success and a well-honed instinct for achieving public policy decisions at the national level. The VP must be able to articulate a vision, identify strategic opportunities, and advance them through a range of tactics. The Vice President for Perú must have the experience and good judgment to anticipate and target important issues, quickly formulate plans, and mobilize resources.

Leading a team of dedicated professionals, the successful applicant will be responsible for the development and execution of campaigns that win victories for Perú’s oceans. They will build on a strong foundation of success that the team has already achieved in areas like transparency, combatting plastic pollution and fisheries management.

This person will be responsible for all aspects of Oceana’s work in Perú – from campaign strategy and design through implementation and will serve as an avid and persuasive advocate for Oceana’s work. Fundraising, communicating, alliance-building and constructing a relationship with the incoming Castillo administration and the new Congress will be part of the VP’s daily work. The VP will serve as a member of Oceana’s Executive Committee and will represent the work in Perú to internal and external audiences.

Strong candidates for this position will have demonstrated an ability to achieve national policy change in Perú, preferably but not necessarily in the field of conservation. Strong candidates will also have an advanced degree in a field related to policy, law or science and 10+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Due to COVID-19, the incumbent will work remotely until, in coordination with Oceana’s President, the path for staff to return to the office in Perú is determined.

To Apply: Please submit your resume and cover letter to Sussana Montero at sussana.montero@amrop.pe
