Nigeria’s ecosystem diversity ranges from semi-arid savannah to mountains, seasonal floodplains, rainforests, freshwater swamps and coastal and marine ecosystems. The Niger Delta in Nigeria has the largest expanse of mangroves in Africa.

  • Nigeria participated in the Anglophone Africa Regional Trialogue organized under BES-Net I in Nairobi in May 2019, leveraging the IPBES Pollinators Assessment to enhance the understanding and involvement of local communities in plant-pollinator conservation.
  • Under BES-Net II, Nigeria is receiving catalytic support through the BES Solution Fund to implement key priority national actions identified during the Trialogue. This initiative has further integrated the use of medicinal plants and established effective monitoring systems facilitated by active community participation.
