Organized by the Partnership for European Environmental Research (PEER), this PEERspectives event will explore the complex connections between biodiversity and global trade. It aims to identify knowledge gaps, inform policy, and foster collaboration across science, economics, and governance.
As global supply chains increasingly impact ecosystems, the event will address how policies on trade, finance, and sustainability can better safeguard biodiversity—within and beyond the EU. Discussions will feature presentations from the PEER working group on biodiversity and trade, as well as insights from European Commission representatives, IPBES, OECD, and civil society leaders.
Topics include:
-
Regulating wildlife trade
-
Promoting biodiversity across supply chains
-
Aligning finance with nature-positive outcomes
-
Linking research fields to policy-making
Speakers include:
Alessandra Zampieri (EC-JRC), Thierry Caquet (INRAE), Jeanne Nel (Wageningen), Julian Rode (UFZ), Katarina Elofsson (DCE), Eeva Primmer (IPBES/SYKE), Jörg Wojahn (DG Trade), Marco Fritz (DG RTD), and others.
