The report has been produced by the Network for Environment and Sustainable Development in Africa as part of the initiative on ‘Building capacity for national ecosystem assessments: linking science and policy and the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Network’. Financial support was provided by the International Climate Initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Cameroon’s Summary for Policymakers distills the first national biodiversity and ecosystem services assessment (1988–2020). Led by the Ministry of Environment with support from NESDA, UNEP-WCMC, UNDP–BES-Net and partners, it sets out eight headline messages on how biodiversity and ecosystem services contribute to economic growth and human well-being, the drivers of loss and projected declines to 2050. The report calls for integrating an ecosystem-based approach in the National Development Strategy 2030, strengthening governance and data and aligning policy and finance to sustain biodiversity’s benefits in decision-making.
