On the occasion of World Wetlands Day 2026, Italy will mark 50 years since it ratified the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. This milestone event will bring together partners from government, science and civil society to honour the theme: Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge – Celebrating Cultural Heritage.
Hosted by the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, in partnership with ISPRA, Lazio Region and FAO, the event includes high-level panels, expert dialogues and a guided field visit to Lake Nazzano, a Ramsar-designated site. Discussions will focus on strengthening synergies between traditional knowledge, science and policy for wetland conservation, climate resilience and cultural preservation.
