Freshwater ecosystems sustain people, biodiversity and economies, but climate change, ecosystem conversion and degradation, pollution, overexploitation and other human-driven pressures are disrupting the global water cycle and threatening the species and communities that depend on it.
Systems Change Lab will convene a high-level webinar examining the state of the global freshwater system and the system-wide changes needed to address interconnected challenges related to climate change, biodiversity loss and water insecurity. The discussion will bring together experts and decision-makers ahead of World Water Week to consider progress, gaps and opportunities for accelerating action, including the protection and restoration of freshwater ecosystems and equitable access to water.
The webinar will also mark the launch of Systems Change Lab’s new freshwater system. It is co-hosted by the World Resources Institute, Bezos Earth Fund and UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC).
