The second Gender and Environment Data Conference will take place on 18 October 2026 in Yerevan, Armenia. It is a pre-COP event ahead of the seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17). Women4Biodiversity, UN Women and the Global Greengrants Fund are organizing and hosting the conference, with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Land Coalition as co-partners.
The conference will examine how qualitative and quantitative gender-environment data can place women at the centre of global environmental decisions. It will also consider how the testimonies of women and frontline communities can inform effective and equitable environmental policy.
The programme is organized in four streams:
- Stream 1: Progress, gaps and commitments – global stocktake and country snapshots (moderated by UN Women) will map the current availability of gender-disaggregated biodiversity data, including recent progress, persistent gaps and emerging opportunities.
- Stream 2: Financing gender data (moderated by UNDP) will draw on national examples to explore good practices and approaches for financing gender data within biodiversity and environmental policy and programming.
- Stream 3: Community-driven data collection, tools and methodologies (moderated by the International Land Coalition) will explore how community-driven data collection can improve accountability, make gender and Indigenous realities visible in biodiversity monitoring and support more equitable outcomes under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
- Stream 4: From data to policy (moderated by Women4Biodiversity) will identify key messages to take to COP17 and beyond, and look at strengthening cooperation among the Rio conventions.
